The African Futures Institute in Africa

Since its inception as a regional project by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1992, and subsequently as an independent Institute since 2004, the AFI has been involved in more than 30 African countries, and contributed to the conception and implementation of National Long Term Perspectives Studies (NLTPS) that have reached different stages of development.  Please place the cursor on the country for which you would like to receive an update on the status of the National Long Term Perspectives Studies.

Guinea Bissau - The country successfully accomplished a National Long Term Perspectives Study and the dissemination and operationalization process was halted due to political turmoil
Mozambique - The country successfully accomplished a National Long Term Perspectives Study.
Namibia - A National Long Term Perspectives Study, "Namibia 2030"?, was successfully accomplished and was distributed to stakeholders for review.
Sao Tome and Principe - The country successfully accomplished a National Long Term Perspectives Study which was used to develop the Medium Term National Development Strategy.
Sierra Leone - A National Long Term Perspectives Study was successfully accomplished.
Swaziland - The country successfully accomplished a National Long Term Perspectives Study and plans had been developed for the dissemination and operationalization process.
Tanzania - The country successfully accomplished a National Long Term Perspectives Study
Uganda - The country successfully accomplished a National Long Term Perspectives Study and a feasibility study of an operationalization plan had been recently conducted.
Zambia - The country successfully accomplished a National Long Term Perspectives Study.
Zimbabwe - A National Long Term Perspectives Study was completed and the dissemination and operationalization process was halted due to political turmoil.
Burkina Faso - A National Long Term Perspectives Study, "Burkina 2025", was successfully completed in 2005 and is being reviewed for publication.
Burundi - A National Long Term Perspectives Study is under revision and the planning and strategic thinking capacity of government is being enhanced.
Congo (Brazzaville) - A National Long Term Perspectives Study will be launched in February 2010.
Mauritania - The development of a National Long Term Perspectives Study has begun but its continuation is uncertain due to political instability.
Senegal - A National Long Term Perspectives Study, "Senegal 2025"?, is under way
Benin - The National Long Term Perspectives Study, "Benin 2025" was successfully accomplished and in 2002, civil society was consulted for the dissemination and operationalization of the study.
Cameroon - A feasibility study for a National Long Term Perspectives Study is being conducted
Cape Verde - The country successfully accomplished a National Long Term Perspectives Study.
Central African Republic - A feasibility study for a National Long Term Perspectives Study is set to be conducted in 2010.
Gabon - The country successfully accomplished a National Long Term Perspectives Study.
Guinea - The development of a National Long Term Perspectives Study is uncertain due to political instability.
Kenya - A feasibility study for a National Long Term Perspectives Study is being conducted.
Lesotho - Consultations for the development of a National Long Term Perspectives Study were done.
Liberia - A feasibility study for a National Long Term Perspectives Study is being conducted.
Madagascar - The country successfully completed a National Long Term Perspectives Study and its operationalization was experimentally implemented in one province.
Malawi - The country successfully accomplished a National Long Term Perspectives Study which was used to develop the UN Development Assistance Framework.
Mali - The country successfully accomplished a National Long Term Perspective Study and an operationalization plan was being developed in 2002.
